About The Banana Fiber Company

From farm residue to Afrofuturistic materials.

The Banana Fiber Company combines Ghanaian agricultural roots with modern materials science, transforming pseudostems into high-margin eco products while creating jobs for women and youth in rural communities.

Waste-to-wealth model

Every harvested plantain stem in Ghana currently ends as waste. Our system captures that value locally, processes it into fiber, and turns it into export-ready eco-hair, textiles and packaging materials.

  • Decentralized micro-hubs close to farms reduce transport cost & emissions.
  • Central plant ensures industrial-grade quality & global consistency.
  • Designed for scale: from 10 machines to 150+ across regions.
ESG Native Purpose-built around SDG 8, 9, 12 & 13, with traceable supply chains.
Afrofuturistic Brand Centering Ghanaian culture, design language and Afro diaspora narratives.
Industrial Backbone Engineered to integrate with textile, beauty and packaging value chains.
Community Wealth Micro-hubs led by local cooperatives, especially women and youth.

Impact & metrics

Designed as an ESG engine from day one.

This is not a green add-on. The entire model is built around climate resilience, social equity and transparent governance.

Climate

70% lower lifecycle emissions vs synthetic fibers.

By diverting stems from decomposition and replacing petrochemicals, we shrink emissions while enabling regenerative agricultural practices.

Social

Jobs for women & youth in plantain belts.

Each micro-hub generates 10–15 direct jobs plus upstream and downstream income, with pathways into skilled roles at the central facility.

Governance

Traceable, transparent, AfCFTA-aligned.

We commit to visible sourcing, fair contracts with farmers, and export-ready compliance for African, European and US buyers.

How it works

From Ghanaian farms to global shelves in four steps.

A clear, scalable production flow that investors, partners and communities can understand and plug into.

Step 01

Micro-Hub Extraction

Farmers deliver stems to nearby micro-hubs. Fiber is mechanically extracted, washed and sun-dried using Ghana’s natural climate advantage.

Step 02

Central Processing

Dried fiber is sent to the central facility, softened, combed, graded and transformed into eco-hair, textile fiber and rope.

Step 03

Brand & Packaging

Products are finished under The Banana Fiber Company brand with modern, export-ready packaging and quality control.

Step 04

Distribution & Export

Through local distributors, ECOWAS partners and global buyers, we reach salons, retailers and conscious consumers worldwide.
